This past summer was all about going pant-less, and major fashion risk-takers such as Behati Prinslooand Rihanna got in on the act, using little more than a slouchy, oversize sweatshirt and a good pair of heels to make the transition from day to night. Over the weekend, singer Rita Ora took that look up a notch, making an even more elegant case for ditching one’s trousers.
Following in the footsteps of fellow pop star Rihanna, who experimented with a similar approach to party dressing at the BET Awards, Ora’s Acne Studiosensemble adds glamour—and a touch of quirky charm—to traditional menswear tailoring. The Savile Row–style tweed is a nice foil to the python and velvet accents at the pocket and lapel. Accessories take a backseat here, and rightfully so, since all that’s needed to elevate a statement tuxedo dress like this is a good pair of leg-lengthening nude stilettos.
