RIHANNA'S CLARA LIONEL FOUNDATION WITH A PADDEL8 AUDITION

After a smashing first year bringing out the likes of Kim Kardashian WestBrad Pitt, and Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation is gearing up for an equally dazzling Diamond Ball on December 10 in Los Angeles. Having raised more than $2 million at last year’s event, the organization, founded in 2012 and named after Rihanna’s grandparents, provides education, health, and cultural programs, as well as medical equipment to the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine in the singer’s home country of Barbados. Now the foundation is hoping to draw in a new generation of philanthropists with a digital touch, by partnering with Paddle8 and establishing the Clara Lionel Foundation Global Scholarship Program.

“It is so important for students everywhere to have access to quality education, and this program is designed to help them reach their fullest potential,” Rihanna said by email. “We will be awarding full scholarships to highly motivated youth around the world, [and] our goal is to create a cycle of giving whereby CLF Scholars help others in need thrive.”

It’s a lofty but no doubt achievable goal for the Antisinger, who has also enlisted A-listers like Katy Perry, artist Mr. Brainwash, and designers Lynn Ban and Jennifer Fisher to donate items, including guitars, jewelry, and pieces of art. But leave it to the host to bring the most. In addition to offering bidders the opportunity to meet her on tour, Rihanna is giving her fashion-focused fans the chance to attend her upcoming show with Puma during New York Fashion Week. “Our goal with this year’s Diamond Ball auction is to continue our cancer treatment modernization program,” Rihanna explained. “Funds raised from the auction will go to purchasing additional radiotherapy equipment and supporting a health-care system that improves quality of life for patients in my home country and the surrounding Caribbean.”
