FORMER SUPER EAGLE COACH SAMSON SIASIA AND PINNICK BEGS KIDNAPPERS TO RELEASE MOTHER

U-23 Eagles coach Samson has pleaded to his mother's abductors to please release her.

It was reported that Siasia's 72-year old mother Mrs Ogere Siasia was abducted on Tuesday morning in Odoni village by three men on a motorbike.

According to thenff.com, Siasia begged for his mother's release in order for him to focus on his assignment with the U-23 Eagles.

He said his mother happened to be the only one at home in his village taking care of his father who is visually impaired.

"Right now I am confused, from the story I got, three men on a motorbike stormed my parents' house in my village Odoni in Bayelsa State, shot sporadically into the air before taking my old mother away on a bike," Siasia said.

"What do they expect from me? I don't have money, I am right now on national duty, and need all the time to concentrate on this very important national task, so I beg them to please release my mother so that I can concentrate on this task of qualifying the U-23 National team for the men's football event of the Rio Olympics."

Joining Siasia to plead for the release of his mother is the Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick.
"This is quite disturbing. We are just preparing for a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, and the U-23 boys are already in the Gambia for a pre-Cup of Nations training camp. Why this?," Pinnick said.
"All we can do is to appeal to the kidnappers to free Samson Siasia's aged mother. Samson is on a critical national assignment presently and the last he needs is this kind of distraction."
Meanwhile, Siasia confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police in Bayelsa State.

NIGERIA VS SWAZILAND: FIVE AWAY DRAWS EAGLES TURNED AROUND AT HOME

The Super Eagles will host Swaziland in the return leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Pot Harcourt on Tuesday. In the first leg in Lobamba thEagles played an uninspiring 0-0 draw against their less-fancied hosts.
And as football fans across the country look forward to an improved performance, here are a list of five ties the Eagles have progressed from in the past after a dodgy first leg...

NIGERIA VS ERITREA (2002 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER, 1ST ROUND)

NIGERIA VS RWANDA (2013 AFCON QUALIFIER, 1ST ROUND)
After missing out on the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, the Super Eagles made amends by picking one of the tickets for the 2013 which they went on to win.
In the first round of the qualifiers, the Eagles were drawn against Rwanda. The first leg saw the Eagles hold Rwanda to a 0-0 draw in Kigali. In the reverse fixture played inside the U.J, Esuene Stadium in Calabar, the Eagles won 2-0 thanks to goals from Ike Uche and Ahmed Musa.

The Leone Stars hosted the first leg but could only hold the Eagles to a 1-1 draw. And in the return leg, the Eagles made home advantage count with a 2-0 win.

OSIMHEN REPORTEDLY AGREES TOTTENHAMS MOVE AS CITY WANTS NWAKALI

Top scorer at the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, Golden Eaglets' Victor Osimhen, has reportedly agreed a move to English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur.

Sources in England on Thursday claim Spanish publication AS scooped that officials of the North London club were in contact with representatives of the Nigerian youth star who set a tournament record at the U-17 World Cup with 10 goals in seven matches.

Osimhen scored 39 goals in 71 games during the Golden Eaglets preparatory matches and the CAF U-17 Championship before the World Cup in Chile, AS notes, a staggering goal-scoring feat that must have attracted the officials at White Hart Lane to his talent.

The 16-year-old Osimhen won the Adidas silver ball in Chile as the second Most Valuable Player of the tournament behind captain Kelechi Nwakali whom the report reveals is in talks with Manchester City.

City in 2013 snapped up Nwakali's older brother Chidiebere, and the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 U-17 World Cup, Kelechi Iheanacho.

INJURY-RAVAGED MFON UDOH FINDS FULFILLMENT IN SECURING ENYIMBA'S WIN AGAINST ABIA WARRIORS

The record top scorer says he was super excited after he grabbed the winner against their arch rivals, the Uchendu Warriors to raise the title bid of the People's Elephants

Enyimba forward, Mfon Udoh has expressed fulfilment at giving his side the title boost after he netted the winner in the 1-0 win against local rivals Abia Warriors in Sunday's game in Umuahia.

The visitors had always struggled in the Umuahia leg of the Abia Derby but Udoh came off the bench to break the deadlock in the 69th minute in what turned out the winner as People's Elephant edged closer to a record seventh Nigeria Professional Football League title.

"I just can't describe my feeling scoring for Enyimba against Abia Warriors. I was excited and overwhelmed to have scored in Umuahia," Udoh said.

"I could not celebrate becuase it was very important for my team. The goal meant so much to me and so much for my team and getting the goal when it mattered most.

"I had the belief even before getting into the pitch that I would score and was delighted it came late but I finally scored."

Enyimba welcome second-placed Warri Wolves to the Aba International Stadium this weekend and the record scorer in the domestic league feels that victory is not yet secured.

"It is not over yet for the title. We just need to wrap up the last home game against Warri Wolves and after that we will be thinking of celebrating the title," he said.

On his personal performance in a season blighted by injury, the former Akwa United forward insisted he had a lot to celebrate, at least having his goals to help Enyimba get some crucial points.

"Well, despite the fact I did not do so well this season becuase of my injury, I still gave them the vital points when they needed it. I remembered giving the team it's first away win.

"I'm so happy to be part of the team that is going to win the league title. I can celebrate with delight that I've made my little contribution to my team's success this season," he concluded.

With two matches left, league leaders Enyimba will hosts fellow title contenders Warri Wolves in Aba, before traveling to Akure for a final season clash

A STUDY IN RUTHLESS EFFICIENCY AT U-17 WORLD CUP

Emmanuel Amunike's side seem to have perfected the art of starting slowly, before blowing opponents away. Brazil were the latest to be rope-a-doped in the U-17 World Cup.
Almost as distinct a feature of Chilean topography as the rising Andes that shears it from neighbours Argentina, is the figure of a jubilant Victor Osimhen.
U17-World Cup: Knockouts the real test for Eaglets.
There was just the one goal for him on Sunday against Brazil, and the tight little fist pump from Emmanuel Amunike underlined how crucial the timing was.
The Golden Eaglets have been dominant all through the tournament – barring the 2-1 Croatia defeat – but have quirkily only started one game on the front foot.
They rolled over the hosts 5-1 when Samuel Chukwueze score inside the first two minutes, and then the score stayed at a nervy 2-0 until the last half-hour.
In all others, they have given the opposition a bit of room to work in at the start, a tantalizing peep of thigh before snatching the hem down, mild bemusement at the nerve to attempt to reach out and touch. It would really be a challenge for a team to take them up on it and get an early goal for once, if only to see what might result.
Brazil were clearly the quicker to settle, and might have gone ahead had Akpan Udoh been less attentive in the Nigerian goal. His strong left hand to kill a shot from Evander, after John Lazarus had missed a low fizzing cross into the box, was almost Buffon-esque. This team often has the feel of an accordion, the left and right manuals Osimhen and Udoh, contracting in defence and expanding in attack, with midfield bellows in-between activated in pressure and tension, aggressively funnelling play away from the centre.
Naturally, it was Osimhen who rose highest to meet a flighted delivery and score via a deflection. Eight for the tournament, and having scored in every game, Florent Sinama-Pongolle’s record of nine looks eminently beatable right now. Osimhen will also hope that is the only context within which his name will be mentioned alongside the former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid forward, whose early promise never materialised!
Osimhen | Eyeing a 14-year record
The timing of the goal could not have been better: Brazil’s initial wave of pressure had slowed, their fervour cooled as Amunike’s men tightened the screw in midfield. With each man in yellow watched with eagle eyes, the Selecao’s ball circulation was bogged down in a swamp of green. Scoring just then, with the Brazilians seemingly having punched themselves out already, drove the air out of canary lungs.
The five minutes that followed produced two more goals of almost insulting simplicity, from Kinsley Michael materialising unmarked in the box to volley Osimhen’s hooked pass via the turf, to Udochukwu Anumudu’s speculative tame effort from a long way out befuddling Juliano in the Brazil goal.
Rather than create outright, the emphasis seemed to be on provoking mistakes and, unsurprisingly for a team that seems to lack outright creativity through the middle, it may indeed be the approach that yields the greatest reward for the Golden Eaglets. Brazil finished the game with a greater share of the possession; as beleaguered Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho frequently avers, the team with the ball is more prone to mistakes.
Nigeria's aggregate score during the U-17 World Cup is 17-3
Indeed, there is no team better in Chile at punishing errors, isolating weakness and latching onto it like snarling wolves. Osimhen, hunter-in-chief and leader of the pack, all lithe limbs and cold menace, is the ultimate predator.
Two games stand between Nigeria and a fifth U-17 title which, upon attaining, will almost certainly animate Amunike’s stony inscrutability into a smile. All constant self-awareness, and insistence on muted celebration on the bench, he withholds approbation just long enough to coax another goal and keep the team grounded.
His forbidding severity in the dugout is particularly fascinating, and perhaps it is the right approach for a team that looks like it can

KELECHI IHEANACHO READY FOR HIS BIG CHANCE AT MANCHESTER CITY AND HE HAS ALSO BEEN INVITED TO JOINED THE SUPER EAGLES TEAM

The Manchester City forward was initially excluded from the 23-man squad announced for the World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.

But Oliseh apparently had a change of heart just few hours later to add the exceptionally talented youngster.

The Nigeria Foorball Federation announced Iheanacho’s inclusion, writing on Twitter: “Coach @SundayOOliseh invites @MCFC striker Kelechi Iheanacho (@67Kelechi) for Swaziland! List now 24.”

And according to Oliseh, on the Super Eagles Twitter handle, Iheanacho’s performance against Crystal Palace in the Capital One made him invite the youngster.

“I initially called up 23 but after seeing repeat of Manchester City versus Crystal Palace Capital One Cup, I’m adding Iheanacho to the list.”

Iheanacho was voted as the man of the match on Wednesday night after scoring one and assisting two other goals in City’s 5-1 League Cup victory over Crystal Palace.

SHEIKH SALMAN ENTERS FIFA PRESIDENCY RACE

The president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will stand for February's election despite being criticised by human rights organisations

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa has entered the race to become the next president of Fifa.

The Bahraini previously backed Michel Platini's bid but has thrown his hat into the ring to replace the outgoing Sepp Blatter, who remains suspended by Fifa over investigations into an alleged "disloyal payment" to Platini - whose own running ambitions suffered following a 90-day suspension for his part.

Sheikh Salman is a member of Bahrain's royal family and has been criticised by human rights organisations due to the regime's oppression of previous pro-democratic demonstrations.

The deadline for submission is Monday, with elections scheduled to take place in February 2016.

Sheikh Salman's candidacy was confirmed by the AFC in a statement, which read: "Sheikh Salman has assured the AFC Executive Committee, who offered him overwhelming support, and the 47 AFC Member Associations that his campaign will be entirely self-financed and that he will not use the AFC's resources, human or otherwise, in the election."

The 49-year-old joins Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino and Liberia Football Association chief Musa Bility in the race to succeed Blatter.
